Good Things

Picture
Eggs
All of our birds, once they are fully feathered, live outdoors during the day and head into their coops at dusk. We try to integrate our birds into the farm for their health, the health of the land, and our health. The geese and some of the chickens live in the orchard helping us to control the pests and the voracious growth of grass and weeds. They dine on nature’s bounty, fertilize as they go and help us to avoid any chemical use.

Chicken Eggs
Our chickens are never caged, free to dine on the delicacies in the dirt and air. Eggs were the beginning of our adventure into raising and producing food. Our layers are a variety of breeds and the eggs run the gamut from small light brown Bantam eggs to large blue Americana eggs. Regardless the size or shell color, these are rich, delicious eggs. Our chickens are never caged, and always free to dine on the delicacies found in the dirt and the air.

Quail Eggs
The quail eggs have uniquely spotted exterior shells and a blue interior shell. About four quail eggs equal a chicken egg in size. They are beautiful, delicate, and small, adding a splash of interest, serendipity, and deliciousness to any meal.

Duck Eggs
This is our first year raising ducks. We have Kakhi Campbells which are good egg layers. Our first duck eggs came in June. They are exceptional for baking.
Fruit
We are people always in search of new flavors, and so we grow a variety of fruit throughout the season. This penchant for variety has kept us from planting acres and acres of any fruit. Rather we have a small, but flavorful selection of many.

We have planted fruit trees, bushes, and vines. Fruit takes years to establish and it may be a few more years until we have steady and ample harvests. We would like you to know that the future holds plums, cherries, pears, currants, gooseberries, and kiwi berries for your eating pleasure. In 2017 we had a good quantity of black currants. Stay tuned for what’s available in 2018.

Kiwi berries
Kiwi? You read correctly. Not the furry brown Kiwi you buy in the grocery shipped from New Zealand, no, these are a cold hardy variety that grow on vines like grapes. Kiwi berries are a smooth-skinned, smaller and sweeter version of the kiwifruit, the size of large grapes. We have completed the first phase of trellising and the vines are growing. Stay tuned. Maybe 2018 will be the year of the kiwi berry.

Meat birds
Just as we do not have acres and acres of fruit, we do not have barns full of chickens and turkeys. We prefer to raise only a limited quantity and provide them with space and pasture. Please order your chickens and turkeys early so they will be available when you need them.

All of our poultry is processed at a USDA licensed facility.

Thanksgiving turkey
Bourbon Red Heritage Turkeys. We raise both standard Bronze turkeys and Bourbon Red Heritage turkeys. The Bronze turkeys grow fast and large in comparison to the Bourbon Reds which take almost twice as long to grow large enough for a Thanksgiving table. They are a smaller bird and with less white meat and a fuller, richer flavor. We raise a  limited quantity, so order yours today.

Meat chicken
Cornish Cross chicken. Our meat chickens are Cornish-cross. That’s a big, white feathered meaty bird with a large ratio of white meat. From the moment they are fully feathered, they are free-range birds.
